Unforced Error

In basketball or football, when a player makes an error while not being challenged, chased or guarded closely it is often referred to as an "Unforced Error". Dribbling the ball off of one's shoes or making a wild pass out-of-bounds are examples. ChefSteps' silence on shipping status is clearly in this category. For no apparent reason, ChefSteps has squandered the good will of much of its customer base. I don't get it.

The unforced error is allowing thread after thread after thread about Joule's status to go completely unanswered.

I don't know how much good will CS has squandered -- they sold tens of thousands of Joules, and there haven't been that many upset customers starting threads on the issue here on the forum. But there are enough that it's dominating the forum and giving at least the appearance that a large portion of their customer base is upset. This wouldn't happen - or at least wouldn't happen nearly as much - if they were more responsive. In the past, Ellen and other CS staff have been very responsive to forum questions about Joule. Their total silence recently isn't doing ChefSteps any favors. I say all this without a dog in the fight. I'm not super-upset that we haven't heard anything; I'm not really of the of the "It's still September; here's the FAQ" school either. I see both sides, and do think that a little more communication would help ease the concerns felt by some customers.

Such a fan boy you are, if anyone shows or speaks an inkling of concern about their order or CS, you are the first to jump on them a criticize. It's bad business ethics to keep your customers/investors in the dark, it's good for nobody. I would never tell my customers to shut up and wait, which is what you indirectly convey to this community. What's in it for you? Why so up in arms if someone expresses concern? And please don't go to your go to line of "get a refund". I'm not interested in a refund, and I believe CS is more interested in selling a product then issuing a refund.

Most of the the anger I see is from folks that are here strictly for the product.

Most of the folks that are trying to talk people through it and explain their personal experience with ChefSteps are long-term forum members and heavy forum participants that have been here since the beginning and have seen CS stumble and recover, and still manage to do the right thing.

If you're wondering what's in it for us? That's it. We've been here a very long time, we've got a personal relationship with each other and CS, and we know that they're doing everything humanly possible to bring out a great product to their community.

Thank you Max for the reply, much appreciated. No doubt there is a really good community here, and I understand that one would stand up for something one believes in, this community. I'm just saying a quick communique would put a lot of people at ease. Just like any relationship, communication is key.

Agreed. Especially since CS staff reached out nearly immediately to anyone (with a personal response to each comment) with refund concerns, just 2 weeks ago. All concerns I have, have been stated by others in the community, but I check this forum incessantly. Hoping for the best, always.

I'm not "up in arms" and I don't see them as expressing concern. At this point they are just being peevish. Seriously, you guys can't wait one week? If after the month it hasn't arrived you could always reassess.
