Not sure if the CS team can tells us or not, but roughly how many Joules did you wind up selling in pre-orders? I always wanted to know just how popular it was.

I don't think they can give us numbers like that,,, but since it requires the app, you can get a VERY educated idea, by looking at the downloads of the app in the apple app store, and the google store. :-)

I placed two orders, about a year apart, with ChefSteps for their BBQ rub. The first, placed in May of 2013, was order 1135. The second, placed in June 2014. was order 1700. I ordered a Joule on May 24, 2016, with order number 53108. Given that they placed fewer than 600 orders between 5/13 and 6/14, I'd wager that they sold roughly 50,000 between the pre-order and when I ordered. And there were a non-trivial amount sold between when I ordered and when the pre-orders officially closed (I'm assuming... I helped sell at least three Joules to friends).
Just some numbers to get you speculating.

I placed my order on Jan 15th and my order number is 57891, so unless when I changed my shipping address they also changed my number, which I think is highly unlikely, order number plays no part for when you ordered.

Oh, that's interesting! Thanks for the reply!

You can run some guesstimates based on their 'over a million dollar refund'...assuming all were refunded the 30$ for eg would mean 33,333.

In response to what Benjamin said, I also ordered on 15 January, changed my shipping address a few weeks ago, and my order number is 49854.

I was refunded $50. Some were probably refunded the same, some less, some more. It seems that right after I ordered my Joule (15 Jan) they bumped the pricing up to $229 and kept it there until they announced the price drop/refund. I wonder how much that would affect your estimate?

This is a creative idea! But how would the figure change by people installing the app on multiple devices?

That's a great point, and I can't think of a way you can. If you think of something, I would be interested!
