I love knives and have quite a collection. I got this knife in Tsukiji, the Tokyo fish market.
I'm a little embarassed to say that I haven't even opened it in about 2 years. At the time I bought it my standard knife in the US was 21cm and it felt a little small so I got this Masamoto, it's in the 24cm range (9.75in). However I was in Japan for a while and the kitchen was quite tiny, it only had enough to space for a single cutting board, let alone a behemoth like this, so I got used to smaller knives in the 15-18cm range.
Once I returned to the US I told myself that the first dish I'd made with the Masamoto would be Japanese -- a homecoming of sorts. Well, in the mean time I kept reaching for smaller knives and forgot about this one, unopened, in the back of the drawer. I finally dug it out. All I have to say is "wow it's big!" I used my old 21cm the other day an even that felt big. This one felt like I needed to two hands.
