Has anyone been? The price, I feel, is a bit insane especially with Rogue 24, Komi, and Volt Table 21 producing similar extended tastings for far less. They were lambasted quite a bit by The Washington Post when they reopened the space back in 2012, but the critic had most definitely been to minibar prior.

I would do Table 21 instead. The price for MiniBar has skyrocketed for some reason and as far as I can tell the menu is still very similar. Just know that Table 21 is in Frederick not DC proper so you'll have to arrange transportation to get out there. CityZen is also a very nice place in the Mandarin Oriental hotel by the waterfront. And if you're not opposed to driving there's always The Inn at Little Washington and The Ashby Inn.

Had brunch at Volt last year - it was wildly creative and delicious. I think maybe I should devote a full dinner there and forgo the inflated minibar prices!

I suggest both Rogue 24 AND minibar. The minibar experience is a must-do, it is the closest experience we have in the USA to the el bulli menu (which should now be compared to the 41 Degrees menu since Albert Adria has taken his pastry chef driven tapas to new levels at his latest restaurant). The positive is the incredibly creative experience overseen by former el bulli alumni Aitor Zabala and Ruben García. The negative is that the majority of José Andrés success is due to mimicking his former boss Ferran Adria, rather than innovating on his own... but considering the level of creativity I think thats a minor issue. Don't miss minibar, its one of the most important dining experiences in this country.
