Shipping progress update?

I haven't chimed in here previously regarding the initial delay in May, the fear of missing the 2nd shipping goal last month or the often mentioned lack of communication, but I'm looking at the shipping confirmations coming in and then days on the calendar and it isn't adding up. Now before anyone jumps in to defend the approach Chefsteps has taken with this product release or refer me to a FAQ, let me say I already assume the shipping scale will ramp up as things progress, so we should start seeing more and more orders being shipped daily. I also assume a huge number of pre-orders were placed in the first week or two following Nov 24 so there was a hump to get over that first week of shipping. I also am aware some unforeseen shipping challenges have come into play due to the Hanjin bankruptcy, and YES I know there are still 21 days left in the month which at face value seems like plenty of time get orders shipped.

Here is my issue. Based on some posts last night it looks like Dec 6 orders were shipped yesterday. So looking at the calendar it took 14 days for them to get through the shipping of 13 days worth of pre-orders. Despite my above assumptions, I find it extremely difficult to believe all of the remaining pre-orders, 9 months worth, will be delivered in the 21 days left in October as forecasted in the update Chris Young provided in September. I get it was a forecast, but I think it was a bold forecast and I think it is pretty clear that it was incorrect at this point. I'm glad joules are shipping, don't get me wrong, but some sort of update or communication would be appreciated.

I do not try to overlay pragmatic logic onto situation like this without having access to all the information. Managing the expectations of a crowd like this is not possible. The level of information that will satisfy one person in the group will be either too much or too little for the next person.

Yes it would be nice if they were to manage to push the notification out every day how many they managed to ship. The time it takes to tally and post such a number means that 5 or 10 people don't get theirs tomorrow.

Yes, if someone spent an hour, they might be able to make the script automatically post that. Except that hour could very easily turn in 15 and now it isn't 5 or 10 people not getting shipped its 500...

I have no idea what the truth is. I just understand the dilemma.

I am not looking for daily updates, I think that would be unreasonable. I am sure everyone there is busy trying to get orders out as fast as they can. I don't even know that I am looking for a weekly update. I just think based on the numbers so far, it could be months before some pre-orders are received so some sort of update would be nice.

So my question to you Eric is this, why would you assume that shipping would be linear? Just because they may be shipping 'X' amount of units in the first shipment, doesn't mean that every shipment will contain 'X' amount. In other words, it is perfectly reasonable for the first shipment to be 'X' amount, the second to be 'Y' amount, the third shipment to be 'z' amount, etc. The frequency of daily shipments will also be different.

There is no reason why Chris Young's forecast couldn't be met, or even fulfilled quicker.

Obviously it won't be linear, which I was quick to address, before stating my concern. I also addressed that the number of orders would not be linear as well. Despite that, I find it doubtful that somewhere in the neighborhood of 270 days worth of orders will be delivered in the following 21, when its taken 14 days to ship only 13 days of orders. Did the 1st few weeks have a higher concentration of orders than the months following? I am sure they did, but we are still talking ~9 months of unfulfilled orders.

Why? If you understand that it won't be linear, then why would you doubt Chris Young's forecast? They may be shipping ten times the quantity now verses what was initially shipped. There is no reason to doubt that all the orders will be shipped on time, or even sooner. Curious as to why you would speculate that orders will not be fulfilled on time.

BTW, I ordered my Joule in mid-December and just received my FedEx shipping confirmation. Joule will be here in two days. w00teriffic !!!

Glad to hear you received a confirmation that is encouraging. I would be more than happy to report back here on the 31st and admit I was wrong if that turns out to be the case. It just seems like a lot of shipping to do in a shrinking amount of time and up until an hour ago things have seemed to be moving much slower than anticipated. If you are receiving shipping confirmation then it looks like things are picking up as that would be about 1 week knocked out in 1 day. I may have spoken too soon. Would you mind sharing what day in December you ordered so some of us may know if we may be expecting shipments in he coming days as well?
