Timed cook?
whenric
Is there a way to set Joule to start a cook for a future time (like start cooking my eggs at 5am so they're ready when I wake up)? It seems like the answer is no, from what I can tell thus far. Seems like that would be a lovely feature if not.

I like that idea immensely. The only possible idea until that time is to plug Joule into a timer plug. It would be unsightly on the counter, and that feature would be prettier in app.

Totally agree. I'm dreaming of a world where joule kicks on, melts an ice bath keeping steaks chilled and makes dinner without interrupting a meeting and wakes up before me to make poached eggs or steal cut oats. For now I'm setting reminder alarms to start dinner and planning to wake up, hit start and snooze at the same time.

Is Joule supposed to shut off at completion of the timed interval. Mine does not.

Hey there,
Joule doesn't have this feature. What's great about it being a WiFi device, however, is that you can start it from bed, roll over and catch some more zzzzs until you're ready to get out of bed and drop in some eggs. Not quite the same, I know, but it could work.
I agree that it would be a lovely feature, however!

Thanks, not the end of the world. I just got mine tonight and was experimenting. Was surprised when the cook did not stop.

No, and you wouldn't want that to happen...from a food safety perspective.

Maybe ChefSteps could release some sort of IFTTT (if this, then that) functionality and people could do whatever crazy automated control they wanted.

That's the route I'm going to try. I use a heavy duty one at work for my space heater. It should work fine with Joule.

So it looks like the firmware itself may support this as the programs take a "delayedStart" param. Of course we have not yet got custom programs working but assuming this is not ignored it would do what you want.

(under firmware programs) has some of the details.

I have an army surplus flux capacitor. I was wondering if I could hook it up to my joule and cook things in 1987. I'm not as tech savvy as some of you forum contributors was really hoping you could help me out.

Hey Matt see
@Emmett_Barton_12803
response. One thing you can do now. Is set up your ice bath, and go to work or wherever, and use your alarm on your phone to remind yourself. Then turn on Joule. Remember, you can do this from anywhere.I was at a store in Natick MA the other day and am staying in Dedham (30min away) and decided I wanted some chicken, so I set the temp from the car and it was Joule per usual ;-)

It never got directly addressed so .....pluging the Joule in to a timer WILL NOT work. All this will do is supply power to Joule....you still have to open the app, set the temp and time....and
@Matt_Thomas_44958
, the flux capacitor would work from Doc Brown BUT, the Army surplus model doesn't have enough power.....

@HammeredChef
the flux capacitor is not the source of power(normally mr fusion or lightening), however clearly temporarily stores the charge needed. I have heard some of the army models however are prone to overcharging leading to an awkward temporal shift.

Sadly, Joule only supports cooks taking place after 2012.
