Joule Placement or Angle

Hello I was wondering if it was absolutely necessary to have the Joule standing vertical with the bottom foot touching the bottom of the pan. The reasons why I'm asking is because my pot is nonstick so the magnet can't hold it in place, also the lip of my pot (diameter) is wider than the base (diameter) of the pot. So if I am clipping the Joule to the side, it's at a 75 degree angle (assuming vertically straight is 90 degrees).

Joule typically doesn't like to be tilted allot. There's a built in accelerometer that monitors the motion and "up/down", so you would have to try it and see if it will tolerate that level of tilt.
