Joule vs Anova

Got my Joule today! First task was to compare it to my beloved Anova.

Set up both side by side in identical containers with 3.5 gallons of 18.5 c water, set temp to 65c and hit go.

By the 15 minute mark Joule was about 10c ahead and finished heating to 65c 22 minutes before the Anova was done.

My favorite difference however is the compact size of Joule. Great job chefsteps! I can't wait to do some long cooks! 72 hour pastrami here we come.

I just got an Anova today as my second Sous Vide. I got my Joule 2 weeks ago. Needed a second before Christmas and didn't think Joule would be available. The Joule is more compact and heats up faster. The Joule stabilizes faster. I used the Anova to cook some eggs and it took 2 minutes for the Anova to get back to temperature. I do like the visual controls on the Anova. Not much difference in the Apps functionality. However, the Anova has more recipes - but recipes are easy to find. Joule better but Anova perfectly good.

Total time for Joule was 33 minutes 55 minutes for the Anova. Additional note is that the containers were uncovered.

I agree on the visual controls on the Anova. We will see how much I miss them, but I really do enjoy just plugging in the Anova, spinning the dial and pressing go. Although after using Joule I think the size trade off is well worth having to pull out my phone.

The heater and overall design of the Joule is by far superior, but having said that I AM looking forward to the Anova Precision Oven which looks incredible. Probably the only thing I would buy from Anova, but it all depends on the specs which they usually cut corners on.
