Someone just placed a bunch of adds where the recipes used to be....
Thank you! In a busy world, gift ideas are hard to come by, so this is a great help!
You know, euroman had a chamber vacuum on their ideas list - it's a crazy crossover world
Four unit conversions, I prefer the the Wolfram Alpha app. http://products.wolframalpha.com/mobile/
What is the thermometer and probe set-up you guys use when you're deep frying?
Do you have a recommendation for non-stick pans? Thinking in the 12- or 14-inch range for a family member.
Darto
@andreas tellefsen they've actually had n many postings which q weren't recipes, even some that had nothing to do with food. This is their website, after all, and can put up what they wish.
Darto pans are carbon steel, not what are traditionally considered non-stick. If by non-stick you meant well-seasoned carbon steel, I think Darto is a great choice. If you want out-of-the-box non-stick I recommend the Zwilling titanium ceramic line.
Very nice suggestions here. Since I am having fun with my Joule, I'd suggest a "Rubbermaid Commercial Space-Saving Container." Mine is 8 quarts. It is cheap and just right for sous vide.
Pressure cooking is having a bit of a renaissance recently, but do you really need another plug-in appliance? Get a Presto stainless steel pressure cooker. This is the classic model that works right on your stove. Turn tough meat into a tasty, tender stew in just 20 minutes. They come in various sizes to fit the household your are gifting. The aluminium ones are cheaper, but the stainless ones have a pleasant solidity and pleasing shininess. Who doesn't like shiny?
Actually, try the EZ Profi oyster knife that Hoppin' John imports. It was designed by the world champion oyster shucker and it's really really good! https://www.hoppinjohns.com/
Also, I have stovetop pressure cookers and have used them since I was a child but I would not trade my InstantPot Smart Bluetooth Enabled Multifunction Pressure Cooker for anything. Yes we all have a lot of plug in gadgets but this one stays on my counter by my VitaMix because it is so versatile - a pressure cooker I can set and walk away. I can even program it (great geek factor) to do different things and walk away. But so much more - unlike most appliances and other electric pressure cookers that say they can saute, this one actually does a dang good saute and browning for one pot cooking. It's also a steamer and slow cooker. It is like an extra cooking eye for cooking those meals that take up every eye and rack you have. I also love the keep warm function. I volunteer with an elementary school garden program and teach healthy cooking so it is great to precook a dish for them to all taste and just grab it up and go and I can plug it on the keep warm function while I prep and do the demo. Same with parties, I can cook, take, plug in and serve. If only it would deep fry it would be perfect.
They have in deed. Ive seen all of them. This one tho, is the most commercial oriented one so far. I guess i was just dissapointed because i thought christmas gifts is such a good opportunity for them to suggest something we can make our selves.
Andreas, Thanks for your comment. I love the idea of a gift guide full of stuff you can make yourself, Pickles would be an awesome host or hostess gifts, as would infused oil or macarons or pate or pate de fruit.
I love these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00857V55O/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pd_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=11XV78DHMO90D&coliid=I34EAH0JMBP518
Interestingly, I'm looking around, and I still see the recipes. They're still there. And I'll bet there will be more to come, as well. Almost as if this gift giving guide is just a once-a-year list of ideas for, you know, ChefSteps-inspired gifts.
Your Akifusa knife recommendation shows their Wa handle version but the links go to their Western handle version. Which version handle do you prefer?

This is America”s Test Kitchen’s new top rated for a 12 inch nonstick skillet https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00PCI6XP6/?tag=ccoequippilot-20. I own the previous winner, a T-Fal. According to them it is not worth the money to spend more than $60 on that type of pan, they wear out too quickly. I remember reading three years tops even for the highest rated pan in their previous testing. Though, they do recommend in the magazines to use well seasoned cast iron as an even better alternative…I’ve maybe once seen them pull out a cast iron pan on the show! The new Christopher Kimball’s/ Milk Street has an article on tossing out your nonstick and seasoning your carbon-steel pan well enough to use instead. Anyway, my cheap nonstick pans recommended by them have worked great for years now. I use them for eggs and vegetables only though.
ThermoWorks http://www.thermoworks.com/Therma-Differential?tw=CHEFSTEPS I use my Thermapen for deep frying, but a great alternative is their ChefAlarm, mine came with a pot clip,
The Searzall is my new favorite gadget, my honey gifted me at Christmas. Once you get the push of the juices figured out....you'll be scorched by compliments
A question please....is there a favorite temp gun that you could use to check inside temp of food inside sousvide bags?
cutting board suggestions?

Please do another one of these for 2020
