So cool!!
Sandra Lee would be proud!
you guys are incredible! Looking forward to more recipes.
Just finished making this - Dad of the year. I love to cook but hate to bake. This hits on so many levels! Glad Grant is back!
"Set the microwave at 60% power" - Microwave ovens vary in power from 600 to 1200 watts. I presume (but am not 100% sure) the 60% power would vary as well. I'm now rocking a 900 watt oven. Am I still looking at 60% power?
Hi Steve. you are not going to do the cake any harm by taking a little longer to cook it with less power. There is so much variation in microwaves that it really is just going to take some experimentation on your part with your equipment. Just keep checking in on it through the process, stopping and going is how we did the first run through on it in the microwave frenzy video.
Steve's question is smart and deserves a precise answer from ChefSteps. Grant can't say in his pressure-cooked chile verde recipe "many of you asked if we could develop the recipe in the ChefSteps kitchen with specific measurements. Of course! That’s what we do for you" and then wave this away.
Love it. For reference, my 1050-watt GE microwave got each cake to an internal temp of 210°F in 6 minutes at 60% power. You could actually watch the center puff and fall as the power cycled on and off, since I don’t have a superior Breville microwave with Power Smoothing Inverter (tm). Or a Panasonic, for that matter
Either way, pink frosting notwithstanding, this made for an excellent sickly-sweet Pokeball birthday cake! Used a layer of butter and flour on each bowl, no problems with sticking.
What size bowls would you consider medium?
looking interesting, but i would have appreciated a scratch recipe instead of a cake mix ( which i cannot use).
They're basically flour, sugar, baking soda, and salt, with a little fat, color, thickener. You might be able to pull this off with a scratch recipe. It's just batter and heat
