How loud is your Joule?

I was reading Kenji's review, and he said, "...the actual production-line model has proven to be perfectly silent for the several weeks I've been using it."

My Joule makes a whirring sound that's about as loud as my first-gen Sansaire. I wouldn't call it "silent" by any means.

How about you?

Mine is practically silent.

Run it through a 140F cycle of half water half white vinegar. Start with cool water. When it hits 140F youʻre done.

Rinse, dry, put away. Next, probably, no more whine.

Mine whined at first, right out of the box, until it came up to temp, then was virtually silent.

Also placing your cooking vessel on a towel or silicon trivet will help minimizing any acoustic amplification.

Neither this (nor the towel trick) had any effect on the noise for us. It's not that big a deal for us, but just noting that those two things don't always have an effect on the noise...

Mine, on first-run, at a bit of a high-pitch sound, but afterward, it has been very quiet, within the expectation that I would have for a quiet circulator.

It functions just fine, but I'm guessing this isn't the way it's supposed to sound? I have a ticket open with CS, but want to know what others sound like as well. I can hear it from various rooms as well if I listen close enough.

I hear the "cavitation" of the propeller noticeable from several feet away, but also at temps above 150, my Joule makes a sound that is like a tea kettle starting to whistle. I've tried varying water levels and it makes this noise.

Has anyone had any resolution for this issue. Just received my joule and I am experiencing the same noise. Sounds like the movement of the circulating blade.

Mine buzzes at about 48 dB as measured from 8 - 10 inches away from the unit with an iPhone App. It makes no difference if its raising or maintaining the temperature or what sort of container is in use. It did so from the first time I turned it on.

Initially it would not start at all and support suggested I take the bottom off and give the propeller a few turns by hand and that did indeed solve the problem of not starting. But now I'm worried that it is defective as it is no where near "silent". Its pretty annoying. I have opened support ticket # 24494 on this issue.
