Oil / candy temp probe?

I'm looking to get the thermoworks ThermaQ recommended by the ChefSteps team.

I've found the long, straight probes that Thermoworks recommends for oil/candy, but in Chefsteps videos I see them using a yellow sealed wire clipped to the side of the pot with a binder clip.

What probe is being used in the videos? It looks like it would be convenient and stay out of the way when cooking and stirring. Thanks!

I have the long probe for my ThermaQ and it works great. If you purchase the clip it stays out of the way. I believe this is the one they are using in the videos.

I'm considering using an HVAC thermometer because it has the remote probe. I don't know how well it will stand up to the heat so I'll have to check material specs. Keep in mind the one John shares is PTFE which will degrade above 500F.

This is the same K-type probe I just bought so I could make another batch of CS's Chocolate Turkish Delights. (SO good!). I haven't used it yet but that's the one to go with and yes, John helped me make this choice. He knows of what he speaks!!

For oil I like the IR gun probe from the website (got it about 6 weeks ago-so much easier). Not sure about candy though.....

Thermoworks is the bomb. Personal anecdote: I bought my first on AMAZON and after 2 years it died. Called them and they replaced it free with a much much better one. I love these guys.
