Go to the Recipe: Churchill’s Breakfast Cocktail
Any thoughts on adding citrus to this recipe?
Actually, I think a flamed twist of blood or regular orange peel would be nice. Could also rim the glass with the orange peel to add the oils and aroma without modifying the main drink.
Great idea Alex.
looking at this (given the breakfast timeline) I see no reason why this couldn't be usedas a walnut pancake (or other) topping. A bit more maple syrup and heated with the cinnamon stick steeping the combination.
Sounds delicious.
come on.....how did it taste?
Why are the liquid measurements in grams rather than ml?
because mass/weight measurements are more reliable/repeatable in recipes than volumetric ones.
While it is true that we have better/cheaper tools to measure mass, I'd argue that it is not really pragmatic for many cocktails.
At the beginning of the video at the top of this page, they list the more convenient volumetric measurements in fluid ounces (1.5 oz rye, 0.5 oz cold brew coffee, 0.25 oz maple syrup, dash ango, 1 cinnamon stick). I wish this was listed on the page this way, but perhaps there's a limitation in the software that will scale or switch between English/metric units. Or perhaps they wish to have a "canonical" recipe that you can make once-or-twice before you start making "shortcuts".
In the video for Tested, you can see that even Grant from ChefSteps will "eye ball" measurements when demoing this recipe.
I see the serving glass appears to be rimmed with something but I didn't see anything in the video or insurrections as to what it was...??? I think that was a inversed passive question that was also a run on sentence...
Looks like it is rimmed with gold leaf ( a part of the glass, not the cocktail)...
So do you microplane a whole cinnamon stick into the glass at step 3?
Stirring the cocktail instead of shaking the crap out of it will yield better results. No froth, and you get a silky texture and mouthfeel. Not to mention the appearance. It will be less opaque (without aeration) and glisten. Please don’t shake. For the love of the cocktail gods.
🤔😒 I'd do it to taste. if you think you'll enjoy it , give it a shot
While I understand and embrace the measurements by weight, but in a cocktail? I have quite.a few jiggers in my collection and none can measure 78 grams. That being said it sounds delicious and I'm sure I will be trying them.
If this is your homage to Churchill, shouldn’t it use whisky not whiskey?
Dave, at the top of the ingredients is the option to Edit Scale and Units. You can change to Oz as well as the number of servings. Salud!
