Go to the Recipe: Plant-Based “Beef” Bolognese
Thank you for making another vegetarian dish! I will be making this soon!
Looks like a great recipe. MCCORMICK® BEEF STEW SEASONING MIX isn’t readily available in the UK. Suggestions on alternative or approximate spice recipe would be amazing. Thanks for jumping on plant-based.
writing as an Italian subscriber... what is in the "Zesty Italian dressing mix"?
Um... well it is a packet we use here in the states that you add to vinegar and oil to make a salad vinaigrette. Basically it is onion, garlic, pepper, herbs and spices. You certainly do not have to use it to get amazing results. The beef stew packet however adds a level of beefiness that you will want.. without any sort of animal products.
The beef stew packet we used really is just some spices, with dried tomato, soy protein, and some other umami components. salt, onion, paprika, pepper, thyme, and some nutritional yeast.
This recipe looks great, thank you!
This might be a ridiculous question for a Bolognese, but here goes - my vegetarian wife is allergic to nightshades (aka tomato and eggplant). Any ideas for a tomato substitute for this recipe?
You can try making a cream based sauce with winter squash and homemade cashew milk. Use white wine instead of the red?
This sounds great, will give it a go, thank you!
Delicious, simple and easy. What's not to like? The only thing I would add is nutritional yeast on top at the end. It adds that parmesan look and nutty umami richness and a bit of aroma.
