Bath and Maintenance of Sous Vide Creative
susan_fox_33805
Just got my machine and I'm cooking my first sous vide eggs as we speak. I live in interior Alaska where water is as expensive as it is hard. How often should I change out the bath? Every instance it's used or can I within reason keep the bath for multiple uses? I'm worried about rapid mineral build up on the elements, would it be harmful to run frequent 15% vinegar baths as a preventative measure? I can't see how that would harm the machine but you never know.

Im on a well and have slightly hard water, I haven't changed the water out yet but I plan to change it atleast once a week, and probably run a vinegar bath about once a month to prevent scale build up.

There's a video I posted in my disaster strikes thread from Polyscience themselves. They also have a number of videos online on maintenance I've discovered.

Water softener is a great idea! Thanks.

You can reuse the water--although if you spill food into it I recommend changing it. Vinegar would help, but will stink. If you can find some water softening salts--these usually contain phosphates--I would add a small amount to your water instead.
