Long Term Use Reviews???

I want to order a Joule, but cannot find any reviews that are more than a side by side test with other circulators. As a 1st gen. Anova owner I like everything I read about Joule, but the longevity/life expectancy of the device is the most important to me. I don't want to buy a new circulator every 12-24 months... I want to be able to use it for steaks/chops a few times a week and do some long cooks once or twice a month. Normally I'd go to Amazon and read through positive and critical reviews to get a sense of the failure rate, etc... I can't do that with Joule...or at least I haven't found a source of reviews.

I do not know the details of ChefSteps longevity testing, but we did discuss it when they had their Joule event. When you see the devices torn down, side by side, it's pretty clear that a much higher level of design and engineering went into the Joule.

A decent indicator of that is the fact that it's the only device that you can drop in your bath and it will be just fine.

There are no guarantees in life. That being said, I believe that Joule is a wise decision to spend your $$ on. The creators spent a very very long time designing and testing before they were ready to put it into the marketplace. Current users are raving about how awesome, quick, easy and dare I say portable the Joule is (can you take your Sous Vide Supreme when traveling?!?). So, again, while nothing lasts forever, some things are worth taking the risk. And from what I'm experiencing the risk is v e r y low!

I don't think that Joule has been out long enough to get very many reviews on longevity. But what I can tell you is that I when I was beta testing, for almost four months, I used it every day. The only issue I had was hard water buildup and this was resolved with a 50/50 vinegar and water solution. I ran it for anywhere from 1 hour to 72 hour cooks. When I had to return it it was still as good as new.

One thing I notice is that the warranty says "one year from the date of original retail purchase", which in my case was January 15. I'm hoping that Chefsteps will extend that to one year from date of delivery, but technically I'll only have a little under two months left when it arrives.

The Joule is built to much stricter standards than the Anova circulator. That said, ANY piece of electronics is vulnerable to some degree. One of the main reasons why I chose the Joule over any other circulator is that it is designed and built like a tank. That's a good start if you're looking for longevity. Treat it with respect and it should last a very long time.

FWIW, have been a user since May (I think) as a beta user and has been phenomenal. Only CS themselves (and maybe a few of their bestest buddies ;-)..) have used it longer. I've put it through all the same types of cooks as my polyscience and it has done well (in terms of outcome, equally as good).

It kind of amazes me that no previous circulator is protected from water dunks.

I agree with many of my like-minded friends below. One major reason I was attracted to the Joule was the engineering and build quality. It is seamless, literally and figuratively, and gives me great confidence in its longevity. But of course, only time will tell. Even Anova and Sansaire are just a few years old, so all the new circulators are still in their test of time, if you ask me. Nonetheless, I have more confidence in my Joule than either my Anova or Sansaire.

I'm hoping it is more robust than either the Sansaire or Anova. Frankly when compared to other items in my kitchen the first few generations of consumer circulators seem to have a very high failure rate when I poll friends. Placing electronics and a touch screen on top of a steaming pot of water probably creates some unique engineering and manufacturing challenges. My Anova has a power cord connection issue, it works but you have to be careful not to bump the cord or it can shut down. The dilemma becomes, buy from another company new to consumer products manufacturing or pay much more for a Polyscience...
