I grew up on an island in the Pacific Northwest, we used to dig/capture and eat them all the time. I didn't know how lucky I was. After bringing them home, we put them in a bucket of clean sea water with some corn meal in it and left them overnight, the corn meal is slightly irritating to them and would cause them to dispel all their sand. Then we would just eat the whole thing including the 'innards", in clam chowder or grilled for instance. Delicious!

Geoducks and horseneck clams are also in abundance along the California coast and have been for decades. I last went clamming at Dillon Beach, CA about 30 years ago. Dug my daily limit - 10 clams - every day, including several geoducks. They make a great chowder.
