Get it in the water! Oh and I've got a couple of tips ... gotta use a trivet the best ones I found are at bedbathbeyond they're silicone and they fold up around the center point. They're great cause it gets the pot up and doesn't conduct through flat mats fail also non slip. Next one ... to keep your hot water hot and minimize water loss during longer cooks try cutting a piece of bubble wrap (the small packaging kind) into the shape of your vessel w/a notch cut for joule. It's easy to dry and store and completely reusable. There have been lots of folks saying to use plastic wrap and as I see it we are already using a lot of plastic in this process and throwing that once used plastic away every time is a little irresponsible.. my 2cnts
