Am I missing something? where is the final brewing instruction?
what are peoples experience doing this? Taste difference?
For me the main difference was less acidity and a more balanced mouthfeel.
Why discard the larger bits? Why not give them another go with the grinder?
Shachar, those small bits can actually pack in the burrs that it seizes the grinder. Maybe save them for cold brew
I haven't tried this yet, but what makes this take 25 minutes? Is the rinsing process that long?
@Shachar you can if you wish, however, if the larger bits are already present, that means they're managed to get through the coffee grinder at their current size. This also means that there is not much of a chance that they will be reduced in size unless you are using blade coffee grinder, which is problematic in and of itself.
Grinding+sifting+rinsing+brewing≈25 minutes
Finally got around to trying this. I'm honestly not sure if I did something wrong, but I am definitely experiencing issues. As this was an experiment, I didn't use the full amount of coffee. I used the standard amount of coffee from the no press french press: 60 g. I sifted, rinsed, and weighted out: resulting in 124 g of wet grounds. I used 2/3rd the amount of coffee, and got a resulting weight of slightly more than the expected weight of rinsing 90 g initial weight of coffee. The color was spot on, but it tasted more of water than coffee. I'm trying to figure out what I did wrong. I waited until the water going through the coffee was running clear, I waited until no water was dripping out of the coffee grounds. I think I did everything by the book, but something went sideways. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
I have a burr grinder, and mostly use a drip machine that controls the temperature and the brew time, allowing for a "bloom" process at the front end.
I have started to grind my beans twice, once at the largest size (french press) and then a second time at the size that I have determined to be my favorite.
I honestly believe that "Twice Grinding" improves the taste, mouth feel, smoothness and finishes very nicely leaving no to little after taste.
Give it a go, my results could just be a technique bais.
can you keep this for later ? or do you have to brew coffee with this a once?
