Troubles connecting to wifi

Can't seem to get my joule to connect to my home wifi network. I've checked all areas outlined in the troubleshooting doc (not on a 5Ghz network, etc) with no luck. Tried re-pairing, joule app reset and also cold booting my router.

It pairs to my iPhone 7 with Bluetooth but frustrated I can't get a wifi pairing. I've opened a support ticket but they won't see that till Monday morning...

Anyone else having wifi troubles?

Hi Jeff, Do you have another device (android?). I've only used my samsung 5 with no real issues as of late. During beta it would take a few tries to connect via wifi.

The only time I had a problem was when I tried to connect with an unsupported WiFi encryption protocol. I had to change mine to WPA to make the connection. If your able to see your WiFi router on your list when you are trying to make the WiFi connection that could be your issue, or your WiFi password is too long.

john - that was my first assumption, so I reverted to WPA over WPA2, but suffered the same issue. It looks like Chris Young is on the case, though, so I'm sure help is on the way...:)

Todd - I don't, unfortunately...confident it will get sorted though...I'll post an update once the issue is resolved. Cooks effortlessly on Bluetooth - I almost feel guilty owning such technology!

Several questions;

1) How old is your router?

2) Does your iPhone 7 see the router when it is sitting next to Joule?

3) Have you tried to delete the app, reinstalling it and trying to connect?

I was wondering if in the Joule app he could see his router, but just couldn't get it to connect? Or if he couldn't even see his router in the app.

Hi @Chris_Young_80640, I've had issues with Wifi as well, but haven't had time to seriously troubleshoot. Figured I get around to it when I had some time, but just been using Bluetooth in the interim. I get constant requests in the app to connect to wifi followed by a message 30 seconds or so later that WiFi is unavailable. This morning, I got a different message. Forgot to take a screenshot, but essentially it said: "Huh, we're having trouble locating the network 'csguest' right now. Would you like to connect to a different network?" Then my WiFi, and many of my neighbors popped up. It asked for a password and now appears to be in order. I am assuming that csguest is a ChefSteps network. It's not a local network anyway. Is it possible I got a unit that was tested on site for QC and came preloaded with a wifi network already set up? Maybe this prevents a new wifi connection from being established? Anyway, I now appear to have a wifi connection, but wonder if others have a similar issue and thought I'd pass on the details.

Update: After hearing back from the dev team at CS, I spent some time last nite on the issue locally and think I have resolved the issue. Here's what I can share, since it doesn't make sense to me, but at least I'm now able to connect via wifi:

I set up a completely unsecured wireless network on my router. First two attempts to connect to the unsecured network failed. Was finally able to get a connection on the third attempt. Was able to control the Joule via that connection.

Disconnected and reconnected several times to the unsecured network thereafter without issue. Confirmed for me the wireless chipset was working, at least after the first two failed attempts. Perhaps, then, it was an issue with my chosen encryption levels (like @John Fisher suggested)?

Then attempted to connect to my WPA network connection using the same settings/password as I had before. It connected without issue. I was able to control my joule without issue.

It was as if I had to prove to Joule that it could connect via unsecured wifi before it would accept a secure connection at increasing levels of encryption. Weird, I know...nothing else changed, I just had to connect on an unsecured network before it accepted a secured network.

Regardless, for now, I have wifi connectivity and all is right with the world...Joule is just as great as I had hoped for...compact, convenient and quick, especially on small cooks like a single chicken breast, a few onsen eggs, etc.

@Brian_Douglas_35255 - sorry to hear about your connection troubles. Indeed, your unit was shipped with a test ChefSteps network inadvertently pre-loaded. Glad to see that you've connected successfully now. I've posted instructions for other users looking to get out of that jam.

I too am at noble to connect to my Xfinity Wi-Fi; it identifies my router but will not connect after I enter my password. My router is both 2.4 and 5 so that shouldn’t be an issue. I have unplugged and restarted the app, I even performed a hard reset all to no avail. I’d appreciate any guidance

Hoping someone can help. I was prompted there were updates for the Joule. Since I was connected to Wifi, I was able to start the update. Some where in the middle of the update, the app disconnected from the unit. Now I'm unable to establish Wifi connection. I can still connect via bluetooth. I keep on getting a prompt that there is an update available, but I can't do the update unless I have Wifi connection. I've tried all the recommended steps on CS and still is unsuccessful. HELP!!! Did my unit get screwed up during the update?

I think you should to do restart your device. After his you should go your mobile setting and clear all cache . If it method no working you should buy a new high connection spectrum router. It will be resolve all your troublshooting problem.
