Sous Vide Container

What containers are people finding work well with Joule? I'm looking at a Cambro on Amazon, but I'm concerned about how the folded-over lip will work with the clip on the Joule.

The clip on the back of Joule is flexible and will manage the lip of the Cambo with ease. Personally, I use whatever pot, pan or lexan that will hold the proper amount of water and the food I'm preparing. No special anything, just using what I have and so far....so good!
Have fun!!

the clip will work but all my cambros have a steel washer epoxied to the bottom
....just set it down on it...

I've mostly used Joule freestanding in a pot. I pulled out my Cambro with it for a large cook yesterday. While the clip can clear the lip of the Cambro, it results in Joule attaching at a tilt aimed slightly upward. Though this appeared to work, I just set it freestanding in the bath and hoped it didn't fall over (It didn't). The Cambro is a great water bath - I have a couple of them, but Joule appears designed for smaller vessels and not necessarily the Cambro. You can use them together, but it's not a great fit. Rumor has it that there are accessory clips coming that will be designed for specific baths - Cambros, Yeti coolers, etc..

Have you tried attaching the Joule in the corner of the lexan instead of along the wall. It might solve the issue of the slight tilt.

Chris Young mentioned a few months back that they were tooling up for production of the larger clip that will fit onto Cambros and coolers, and that a limited number should be available sometime this fall. There have been photos of the prototype in action from ChefSteps HQ, as well as a brief appearance in the suckling pig video.

I just tried this. You're right. If you move all the way to the corner, it sits much straighter.

Cool!! Glad to hear it worked for you!!

Started with whatever I had in the kitchen, mainly stockpots and such. In anticipation of an up coming dinner party for 12, I treated myself to 10L and 15L Cambros (same footprint on the counter) that I picked up at local restaurant supply store. So far the lip has not been an issue using the clip.

Great idea, where have I seen that before? Lol.

I saw you do this before...it is still cool. Great idea.
I need to do this...now that my joule's have finally been address confirmed.
I forget, did you put the washer inside the cambro...or outside and underneath?
Also, do you recommend just taking a magnet to the local home depot or lowes and looking for a magnetic washer...or did you order something specific?

Default clip has been working fine for me in a Cambro.
I'm definitely considering the idea of gluing a metal jar lid or something to the bottom, though.
HammeredChef_DEFINITELY_does_NOT_work_at_22134
take a magnet, sometimes its not what you think...the first i did on the outside. the latest i did on the inside because the epoxy (coat it all) keeps it from rusting and inside is a better magnetic connection
@John_Fisher_218893
and I developed the final version of this over a lot of drinks in Seattle about 2 in the morning......and damn if it doesn't work!

Inside works best, just a steel washer or anything that Joule's magnetic foot can attach to. Joule's magnetic foot only has 6 pounds of magnetic pull. You could even silicon a canning jar lid but it will rust eventually. I did find some magnetic stainless steel discs on Esty.com.
@HammeredChef_DEFINITELY_does_NOT_work_at_22134
idea to epoxy a washer and cover it with epoxy solves the rust issue.

Thanks guys. To the hardware and restraunt supply shop soon.

So, I got a cambro and some beads... insulation, not the other kind.. I also did the magnet mod, but I cut the bottom inch off a pill bottle and epoxied the magnet inside that and epoxied that to the bottom of the cambro. This raises Joule up a little so that the cord clears the side of the cambro and I can fill it higher.
Pardon the crappy picture. (Pastrami, before you ask). This set up has been amazing. Did the turkey recipe in it. After people started to refer to my turkey as "the good turkey" (my mother also made turkey in the oven), I decided that I have to get her a Joule.
To be clear, I love this thing. Thank you, Chefsteps! Now let's get some accessories going for it (carrying/travel case, anyone?)!

I have had great success with pots, food containers & coolers.
When I use a pot, which is not often as when most food is packaged for sous vide it doesn't naturally conform to a round shape, I utilize a silicon cover (
https://goo.gl/hLgr4C
) in which I have cut a tight opening for the Joule. This serves multiple purposes; insulation, noise reduction, Joule stabilization and splash reduction.
These 2 Rubbermaid containers (
https://goo.gl/FcZ2Y6
), with lids, from Sam's Club are a great deal and fit 50-75% of what I cook for 2-4 people. I recently went on a week long family trip and took one container and my Joule. I also took a cooler with ~15 packages of already prepared food. It was a highly effective, and appreciated, setup.
It is easy to cut a hole in the lid (I marked the lid with my Joule foot, then used an X-ACTO knife with
a #
11 blade) for your Joule to drop through. I cut the hole so it is inside the raised lip and precise in size so my Joule is supported by the lid in an upright position without any clips or magnetic means.
I have used a variety of coolers, a 9 quart model (
https://goo.gl/2VBK4j
), a 12 quart model (
https://goo.gl/CWCT4K
), a 25 quart model (
https://goo.gl/iNS2LQ
) and a 28 quart model (
https://goo.gl/oTs7XS
).
Coolers are fantastic for long cooks because of their insulative properties and also for large quantities or items. I cut holes in the lids to accommodate my sous vide devices and use PVC plugs when I want to use the coolers conventionally. I'll add some details and images to this post at a later date as I am not currently located where the coolers are.

I've got the Cambro, and liked it. If you got with LID you won't have any problems with attaching it to any container. Talking from my experience. There are plenty of options available just in case you don't want to make a DIY container:
https://anovaculinary.com/sous-vide-container-guide/
https://wisepick.org/best-containers-for-sous-vide/
But I used pots, coolers and even a paint bucket for my cooks without any issues. Nothing wrong with using a stock pot or any container for that matter. Where a cooler shines is when you do long sous vide cooks. There's very little heat loss and almost no water lost to steam.
