WIFI Password length

My joules have finally shipped and I want to be sure I am ready for them. I have read that I must use a 2.4 ghz band and have a password shorter than 63 characters. Unfortunately, I use a 63 character password...so I will either have to set up a guest account for the joule, or shorten the password and then have to adjust a multitude of other devices that used the old password. Before I do this, I had a few questions...

1.) Is it true I can't use WPS and just avoid all this password changing nonsense?

2.) Does anyone know how long passwords can be?

1. That's is my understanding, however, check with CS staff to make sure. 2. I was not aware of the password length limitation.

To pair and use you can go through BT. If you must use WiFi then I believe there are likely changes required as you mentioned.

Dang, 63 characters?! I would just shorten the password by a few characters.

1. WPS is not a supported protocol. I use WPA but WPA2 is also supported, these are the newer standard protocols. WPS was found to have vulnerabilities and was replaced in the early 2003. 2. In the FAQs they state shorter than 63 characters. Not sure if that means 62 or maybe 63 inclusive. Here is the link

Thanks John, I had already seen the link and thus the article in the FAQ...so I knew I was going to have to shorten the password...or create a guest account for the joule. The FAQ didn't specify the length and I was hoping to avoid much trial and error.

If you want to know for sure, click on the link and submit a request. They are very responsive. If you do please let us know the answer. Pass phrases are safer so I commend you.

Richard, our FAQ wording is somewhat ambiguous (and we'll fix that). Joule currently requires a password of 62 characters or less. This is a limitation that will be addressed in a future firmware update.

We had identity theft before...we made sure our router security made Fort Knox jealous!

Consequently...it is a royal PITA to add new devices.

63 random characters for 2.4 ghz...63 more random characters for 5.0 ghz.

Dang sorry to hear about your identity theft. But I think, based off my limited knowledge, that it would take a normal computer more than several years if you have a password length of 10 characters mixed with capital letters, special symbols and numbers. So you should be fine with a shorter password.

Then again correct me if I'm wrong.
