Odd Noises coming from Joule

Im cooking some belly with the Joule (176 for 6hrs) and am getting some occasional noises from Joule that I haven't heard before. Again, they aren't consistent, but it'll produce a higher botched "whirring" noise at times. It's louder than anything I've heard thus far and I'm wondering if that's normal/had anyone else encountered this? I'm fairly certain it only happened when the Joule was getting up to temperature as once it hit 176 it quieted down.

We had a similar thread earlier. I had a high-pitched whistle happen and maintain, and weirdly, it would happen at temps between 130 and 140F (about). Otherwise, it's super quiet.

Mine is making modulated pitching noise. It is steady and then goes up in pitch, and then down. There is no rhythm, it seems random. I was going to post a recording of it here last week but didn't find a way to post sound clips.

Mine is much louder at high temps. Did my cranberry sauce at 185 and I thought it might pop.

From my conversations with CS about the noise level...it is expected to be louder at higher temperatures because the motor cycles on and off more vigorously. (Not sure of the appropriate word to use.) The firmware update (device, not the app) included a fix to cycle more often per second with hopes that would reduce some noise at higher temps. Have you updated the device firmware yet? If you have and it still sounds unreasonable, open a support ticket and CS will look at your telemetry data to see if it is out of specs.

That said, I find my Joule much louder than I'd prefer and inconsistent with the expectation set by pre-production advertising. It seems they've had some variability with production and those who have quiet Joules should consider themselves fortunate. The rest of us have to weigh if Joule's features compensate for the noise level. I'm going to ask if it is safe to put a styrofoam cooler over my entire set up to muffle the noise. If that creates a problem with heat build up, Joule will be relegated to the garage and my quieter Anova One will live in the house.

On a related note I just had my hearing checked and it is better than most children's. (I'm over 50.) My curse is that I also have tinnitus and find Joule's high pitch whirring particularly aggravating. I suspect I'll spend a bit of time being disappointed with this aspect of Joule and then get over it.
