Leaving the Joule plugged in
Darren_316779
Is it alright to leave the Joule plugged in at all times? I use Joule almost daily and it's just easier to leave it in the power outlet at all times.
I wonder if this will reduce the lifespan of the device since it's always listening?

This won't really reduce the lifespan of Joule, BUT it will still be consuming electricity. How much is hard to say.

FWIW, with my Kill-A-Watt crappy meter, I am seeing between 1 and 1.5 watts consumed at standby. My sample size is limited to this morning.
Regarding wear, I can't comment, but usually with electronics you're not causing wear by leaving it on in standby.

Well all I can tell you is that mine is always on and sitting in clean water ready to go. I also did that for four months with a beta Joule and didn't have a problem as long as cleaned Joule regularly with a 50/50% solution of vinegar and water.

Thanks guys, this is reassuring. And at around 1.5w, cost is negligible

Just a follow up on this. I noticed the top of the Joule is slightly warmer when it is left on, probably due to the LED light that is quite bright. If left unplugged, does anyone have an idea how long before the LED light bulb dies? heard the average lifespan of an LED bulb is 50,000 hours?

Great job everyone, just hopped in to say all of this but you guys all beat me to it
.
Leaving it plugged in won't reduce the lifespan, the slightly warm top is definitely because the LED is right there, it does only draw about 1.5Ws when sitting idle and finally as long as you clean Joule once in a while. I don't have the LED datasheet in front of me but I think you'll be safe on that front.
Leaving it plugged in is exactly what I do.
