Whisper-quiet?

How loud are all of you finding the Joule? I've read other people on this forum using the term "whisper quiet." While I understand that term is usually an exaggeration, I am noticing a relatively loud electric whine when using my Joule. I posted a link to the video here. Is this typical?

That's how mine typically sounds during operation. It has been both louder and quieter than that too. Loud enough I can hear it across the apartment from another room, and quiet enough that I have to physically look at it to make sure it's still churning water. I'm still undecided on whether I should open a support ticket or not.

@Chris_Young_80640 addresses acoustic issues in this post. They are also working on a firmware update that also helps at higher temperatures by changing the way the heater cycles off an on. Water depth, shape of the cooking vessel and the surface the vessel is sitting on can all play a part in the acoustic level. I usually use mine in a cambro, with the water above the spout, cambro on a towel and mine is fairly quiet. I have two Joules and they have the same acoustic level.

Try the vinegar bath - the cleaning instructions - to see if it helps with that whistle.

I echo what John has mentioned. Because Joule has a motor (which spins) it is vibrating. Because it's vibrating it is acting like a speaker producing noise. As the motor spins and whines how much water you're using, what the water container is made out of (and the containers design) and what everything is sitting on - ALL - will effect what you hear. If the noise is a constant pitch, and it's heating the water properly, you're Joule is most likely working fine.

Hi I also just got mine and have heard this noise. I noticed this when I started to use a bath container instead of pot.

I might have to make a separate post but I have also heard of up and down pump noise, like whrrr, whrrrr whrrr that seems like to pump is struggling but that noise went away and also did it in one session.

If anyone knows if the up/down - on/off whrrr noise is normal let me know.

My Joule is very quiet except at the beginning and even then I wouldn't call it noisy. You could be getting an echo or amplification off your container, especially if the Joule is clipped to the side of a metal pot. All my cooking has been either with the Joule being held in place by a hole in a plastic cover or with the magnet (I've slid the clip off to facilitate this).

Compared to my polyscience chef series immersion circulator this is a whisper. I know cause I sometimes sleep with it on.

I wouldn't be able to sleep with mine running. And yes, I've tried different pots, always have it on a pad, have descaled, etc.
