I was wondering how effective the coffee grinder Chefsteps featured in one of their BBQ videos would be in grinding grains and nuts. They're not terribly expensive online, and I wouldn't mind toying around with one

Without having tried it myself: I wouldn't recommend it. I think most nuts aren't hard enough and way too oily. Based on having pounded nuts up in a mortar, I'd expect a paste to come out rather then ground nuts.
Regarding grains: that just might work

I have made "flour" from uncooked rice in a coffee grinder for dust fish fillets, works great, and a great way to clean the grinder when going from one (coffee) to another (spice) material.

You should give them a try! It's crucial to have quality equipment when it comes to anything. I would rather pay more for something that durable than having to constantly buy a new thing every year. Recently, I've finally bought a good and sharp set of knives and I am so happy about this. Another achievement was buying a coffee machine from

which was pretty expensive. At first, I regretted my decision, but after a while, I've realised that it was a very good investment. Everyone tells me that my coffee tastes like the one from a coffee shop.
