Hey all,

Couldn't wait any longer and got myself a anova sous vide since the joule isn't available in Canada yet.

I am looking to add a 2.5 inch hole to fit my anova through and I am wondering if anyone on here has experience cutting polycarbonate and how I would go about doing it without destroying the lid

I used a Dremel tool with a cutting bit. To get it started, i used just a regular drill bit, and once the hole was started, switched to the cutting bit.

I just did this. If you have a drill, get a 2-3/4" hole saw (like this http://a.co/87HubtK) and run it backwards to melt, rather than cut the plastic. It was very easy and if you try to run it forward it attempts to dig in and will easily chip and crack your lid. By melting it, the polycarbonate retains its integrity and doesn't end up with cracks that want to run. Then you can use a Dremel with a cut-off wheel to make straight lines for the clamp to the edge of the line from the hole. You can clean up the melted plastic with a utility knife. Perfect circle.

Works like a champ. I used a 2" cut off tool for the straight lines, worked fine.

What size hole should I be cutting to fit the ANOVA in without the clamp

Don't have any idea. Mine is 2.75 and the straight cuts, so it is in a U shape to use with the Anova clamp.

2.5 inch hole, drilled a test hole in wood

Drilled into the lexan in reverse to melt the plastic and cleaned up the cut with a dremel zip cut blade (which slipped and scratched the plastic. I then used a a sandpaper band at 2500 rpm to clean up the cut. The fit is almost perfect
