Please Add Circulation Mode

Joule is great, but as previous threads have discussed, there's no reason the Joule shouldn't be able to have a simple circulation mode with a firmware update. The hardware already supports it. Please, Joule Team, add this feature and increase the perceived value of the product further with a new and unique feature you can add to your marketing: chill a bottle of wine in 5 min.

Joule customers are already the type of people who like to have guests over, and I would guess that 90% of the time you cook nice food for guests you want wine with your meal. How many times have you been in a pinch entertaining people and need to chill a bottle of wine super fast. With circulation mode, all you would need to do is put cold water + some ice and a bottle of wine and set it to run for 5 minutes and boom -- chilled wine.

The current lowest temperature allowed by Joule is 68°F -- not enough to chill wine. Again, love Joule, but would really love this feature.

Have you emailed this suggestion to them. I have emailed other suggestions and they were responsive and open to the ideas. They don't check the forum much though.

This is a great technique. Dave Arnold has talked about using Polyscience circulators set to low temps to move saline ice baths to rapidly chill (and batch chill) beverages. A "raw" circulate mode would do something similar, as would opening up the available temperature range. But then you might have the problem of chump idiot latecomers wondering why their "65 degree egg" is still completely raw. That mostly sounds like their problem. You could maybe get around this by burying the "full temp range" setting in a menu, where the clueless are less likely to abuse it. Anyway, either of these solutions would be a welcome, useful, and easy-to-add feature to Joule.

Recall the joule works a little differently..... bottom up if you will taking the water in heating from the bottom, heating it and pushing it out via the spout higher up (also why you only need about an inch in the water).

Someone posted on one of the sous vide groups on FB or Reddit that they had talked to CS about this and it turns out not to be feasible with Joule because certain materials used in manufacturing it are not stable at low temperature. To bad, as this is just about the only advantage other than price that Anova has over Joule.

This would also apply to setting up an ice bath with your food in the AM and starting Joule later remotely via internet so your food is cooked (and safe) by the time you get home. Which makes me wonder, does CS actually promote this use somewhere? The same issue would seem to apply.

Do you have a link for this? I've run mine in circulation only a few times in the past to thaw stuff (I wrote an app to talk to joule over bluetooth and set the temp to 0.1C - it won't take 0), but I don't want to break it.

All I'm asking for is for the moter to churn water without adding any heat at all. This feature seems like such a no brainer to me. I'd really like to know why they skipped over it.

Sorry, I can't find it right now. Chris posted a while back on the FB page that the materials they use to make a tight seal might not keep the unit water tight circulating at colder temps. That was why they decided not to add a circulation mode.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like it might not be good to leave it in the water after it's done either. I've only circulated cold twice, and maybe left it in the water as it cooled off a few times. I did have a failure, but it was the foot - moisture had gotten into it, caused the magnet to rust/expand and the magnet popped out of the bottom, but that was well over a year since I tried circulating cold. (Chefsteps replaced the foot promptly - great service.)
