Notifications outside of Forums

I was wondering if there were plans to implement the notifications widget outside of the forums view. It would be a nice feature to see if someone has responded to questions / comments in the recipe / ingredient / class discussion sections without having to navigate to the forums first. Awesomesauce! Just a follow up thought / question - (I haven't tested this yet) But will there be (or is there?) sitewide integration between the recipes / classes discussions and the forums section? I.e. if I post a comment / question in a discussion thread under a specific recipe, let's say the "ChefSteps Melty Cheese Slices" would it appear in the forums section as well, under recipes, or the general feed? I'm curious to see how posts from one side will be visible by the other, in order for the end user not to have to double post.

As of today, it doesn't work like that yet. Although the comments and forum are build with the same system, we're still figuring out in what way the two should be connected. The goal we have is to be able to connect people with similar interests so that we can all learn from each other without feeling intimidated. At the same time, we you to be able to explore outside your comfort zone. Personally I think that's the coolest part about cooking. You can dive in really deep into one subject and there's still a huge world out there to explore. The same goes here; want to surface relevant discussion.

Hey Kenji, I'll jump in here - this is a great point and something that we've been thinking hard about. One thing that the new 'feed-like' design enables us to do is to insert other types of items other than posts. For example, if you asked a question under the Melty Cheese Slices recipe, it could appear on other people's feeds as "Kenji asked this question on Melty Cheese Slices" with the comment/question below.

So yes, we'll be experimenting with this stuff soon. Integration with the rest of the site is important to us and to the community. If you have any further thoughts on how you think this should work, would love to hear.

Thanks to both of you for the feedback! I agree from a presentation standpoint the integration certainly does pose challenges. On one end you want users have that level of visibility, but on the other, you don't want to clutter feeds with too much noise / out of context discussion. I like the idea of having the post show up as such with regards to the recipe, class or ingredient as you mentioned above. I assume it would show up in the feed in the relevant discussion area as well. I look forward to seeing the improvements, your efforts are greatly appreciated by all!
