QOTD - Too hot for my feed?

I really like the question of the day, and apparently so does everyone else. When I sign into the forum, the first 5 threads in my feed are all of the questions of the day. Given that they're so popular, I worry that they will end up crowding out other threads in the "All Posts" feed when the threads are sorted by "hotness." I'm not sure what might be done about this, or if it's even really a problem, but I'm curious what others think about this.

Sort by new. It's much better overall than hot.

I think that if you sort by new, the feed will stay that way next time you come back.

This touches on what I see as an issue with the new forum that I don't yet see a way around. In the old forum, whenever someone posted in a thread it would get bumped to the top. Now, unless enough people hit the same thread to bump it to hot, any thread over a couple days old gets lost and comments go unseen. While I used to essentially read every new comment on the site, unless I subscribe to every thread that comes out, I'm probably missing out on content in the new forum. I find myself constantly switching between new and hot, but neither one is exactly what I'm looking for. I propose a third category, call it 'updates' or something, that highlights threads in order of the most recent comments to that thread. #HelpUsAndrewAndNick

I strongly agree with Brian's comments - I feel like I'm missing forum content and I also feel that follow-up questions within an existing thread more often go unanswered.

Sort by "new" is DEFINITELY better than "hot" the way I use the forum....but you still have to hunt for updates to old posts. Well....you don't "have" to hunt, but if you don't they'll be lost.

This has been one of my biggest problems (really, my only problem) with the new forum format. Unless I put a lot of effort into searching out all the new posts, I feel like I'm missing out on reading posts -- even when I sort by "new."

I'm glad this is getting more steam. Where was everyone when I made this topic weeks ago? I do like how it remembers what I had it set as upon my last visit, but I agree it still isn't perfect. Honestly though, I'm not quite sure how you could fix it to make everybody happy. I thought how the old forum worked in this regard made sense.

Hey everyone, just want to say that we know Hot has kind of turned into a QOTD mess. We also know our "hotness algorithm" doesnt give enough power to smaller, newer posts. We didn't intend for the hot feed to just show mega-posts, our settings are just off, and we're going to give it another try with an adjustment this week.
