cool feature

I was reading some comments on the cookies recipe, someone asking what was Tomato paste in Europe or pastry flower etc...

What about adding either a feature or another section to recipes where you can get some of these info when reading a recipe. I know we can't have all the countries in the world but a couple of ingredient conversion would be great. ie: Heavy cream in the states is double cream in the UK and Creme epaisse in France. Maybe adding these to the ingredient Wikia?

Good one, Nicolas. The ingredient wiki is definitely a good place for that. Just riffing, but maybe we have a parameter that automates subbing the ingredient based on your IP (or maybe chefsteps.co.uk) someday!

The ingredients wiki already allows for this. As it happens, I edited the Heavy Cream entry about six months ago to include synonyms for it. The section I used was headed "alternative names". It is far from perfect though. Keeping with the heavy cream, I see it has double cream as an alternate. Here in Australia, double cream is something different again. It is minimum 54% fat. 35% fat is called pure cream here.

Meat cuts are another nightmare. If I pull a recipe off the web from another country, I usually end up discussing the recipe with my butcher. Together we try to work out what was meant by the name in the recipe based on how it was used and the photo if any.
