Chat and ingredients

Hey there,

firstly, did you somehow delete the chat function on this site? I remember that there was something like that...

Secondly, I'd really like to have a list of all ingredients with their descriptions on this site. I want to get into cooking with those "unusual powdery substances" (Xanthan gum, etc.) but I don't know how many there are and what they exactly do. Having to scroll through every single recipe in the hope of finding such an ingredient with its description doesn't feel right..

Well I could do my own research, but.. maybe this would be a neat feature?

They used to have something called the ingredient wiki, but I can't find it now.

I think the ingredient wiki is down. You can go to individual ingredients but the front page interface is mia.

Also, modernist pantry is great for ordering ingredients and good for browsing different options.

Correct, we removed the ingredient wiki gallery because it was getting very minimal usage (like 0.02% of site visits or something), so it wasn't worth the maintenance cost. But we certainly welcome everyone continuing to update ingredient pages that they see linked from recipes.
