Privacy Policy Problems

This privacy policy update seems pretty useless; comparisons to Myhrvold's patent-troll empire come to mind. "We may use information about you for various purposes, including to... carry out any other purpose for which the information was collected."

Does that seem privacy-respectful to the CS staff? Would you like to be treated that way?

I've written privacy policies and terms of use for multiple companies/websites, there is nothing remarkable about that language. It basically just says "We can use the information we collect about you to do the thing we said we'd do when we asked you to submit said information". That's completely benign.

Seems more or less generic to me. I don't have a problem with that. Data mining has been going on almost as long as the internet has been around. If people are concerned with "their privacy," they shouldn't be putting information onto the "world wide web"

Well, it doesn't seem as if this forum is going to be a corner stone of CS' (immediate) future and it is the only place on the site where I might say something but most of that is about things I like to cook. I don't give them any data I would want to keep secret and they don't seem too anxious to expose me (seeing how my avatar is still a grey shadow). Heck, they won't even let me keep a file of the pics I posted so whatever it is they are collecting, I'm cool with it.
