Facebook Connect Broken?

Hey Guys,

It seems the oauth section under my profile doesn't seem to be working. It takes me straight to a JSON error page, which I'm assuming means something is missing, or your app on the facebook side is perhaps not working as expected.

@chris : It is currently under site features and bug reports I thought? It's seemingly a pretty easy fix, it seems that you guys just are missing, or not passing, your client_id as part of the oauth handshake (https://developers.facebook.com/docs/reference/dialogs/oauth/). I'm guessing it's a plugin from the admin section of the vanilla forum, which, if you have access to, you can simply add your application ID from facebook

Here's the error message I get when clicking on the facebook button under "http://forum.chefsteps.com/profile/connections" :

Hey, @neogenix - that seems to be a bug with Vanilla forums; I'll report it to them and let you know what I hear. I can reproduce it. Thanks for letting us know. (For folks reading along, this isn't a problem with logging into ChefSteps with facebook, this is a problem if you go into the forum > profile > edit profile > social page).

@Michael Natkin: No problemo! I've been beating up oauth alot lately, so I feel for them. FYI, I've not worked out how to @ you with the space in your name. Sorry for not spelling out the non-chefsteps problem btw!

I get the same error trying to connect facebook and a different one when I try to connect my twitter account. It just says "Failed to validate oauth signature and token"

Also, is it possible to change my "User Name"? After setting up my account I realize there will likely be more than one James on these forums some day.

@James, yes you can change your name, just go to http://forum.chefsteps.com/profile and click on Edit Profile. Sorry about that business with connecting twitter and facebook to your profile. I've got some instructions from Vanilla Forums on how to configure that but haven't got it to the top of my list yet. I'll move it up!

Ok, I finally fixed this. Now if you go to http://forum.chefsteps.com/profile/connections you can connect your facebook and twitter accounts and then at the bottom of any post or comment is a quick way to share it. Bonus: you can earn two badges for doing this!

Facebook works now, just dont want tons of posts from Chefsteps. I dont mind a now and then post but dont spam me

Twitter works it just doesn't have the same confirmation as Facebook does, try sharing it should work fine

Yeah, I see the same thing where twitter works but it says it isn't connected. I'll file a bug with the forum provider.

Odd, I have my ChefSteps profile linked to my Facebook account but I cannot log in to ChefSteps using FB. I just get a banner message in red that reads "We're sorry, but something went wrong."

Not sure if it's a different issue as what's detailed here, but I didn't want to make a redundant topic.

Is this right?
