that will take you from the forum to the home page but not from the home page to the forum

Oops, my bad. I even retread it and still got it backwards.

I must of had one to many or one not enough, lol.

The forum does not produce income for the most deserving folk at CS, whereas the goods,services and classes fund their work. It is a little inconvenient, but an understable design choice.

Apparently, it's because they still view the Community as a beta. I found this discussion from a few months ago which explains their reasoning. I guess it makes sense, but my problem is that the old forum (the Vanilla Forum one) definitely did not feel like a beta version, and I don't know what was gained by switching over to the new software. Maybe it integrates better with the broader site than the old forum did -- I can't recall -- but I miss the extended discussion and easy browsing that it offered. It didn't seem to get plagued by spambots either.
